LESSONS OFFERED

PIANO

Piano/Keyboard Lessons are offered in private lesson settings for students of all ages.


Students will be taught note reading, rhythmic values, logical fingering and musicianship skills.


Following an introductory program, students may continue into the Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada curriculum or another area of interest if they so choose. Students are placed in a curriculum suited to their age and interests.


Port Perry School of Music offers lessons for beginner students – advanced/university preparation. Conservatory examination preparation is also available upon request.

Piano Lesson

PIANOKIDS®

Pianokids® is a piano course designed for the very young beginner ages 4 – 10.


The course teaches young children the principles of playing the piano in a fun and “child-friendly” setting. 


Children will be introduced to the piano through singing, games and playing on the instrument. Each lesson involves note-reading drills, rhythm drills and games, singing and keyboard skills.


Theory and ear-training are taught through activities that directly relate to the learning process of children this age.

By the end of the first year in PianoKids®, the child will have a good grasp of the principles of piano playing and note reading.

PianoKids® is the FIRST method series to go digital! Watch for more information as Port Perry School of Music beings offering lessons using our new amazing digital method series in the 2017-2018 lesson year!

GUITAR, UKULELE AND BANJO

Guitar, Ukulele and Banjo Lessons are available in a private lessons settings for students of all ages. Guitar and Ukulele lessons are generally 30-minutes in length, once each week.

 

Students will follow an introductory program with a focus on learning rhythm, theory, chords and note-reading skills while also being introduced to any genre that interests them, including rock, jazz, blues and country.

 

Port Perry School of Music also offers assessments for students transferring from other programs wishing to continue their studies.

Acoustic Guitar

GUITARKIDS®

GuitarKids® is a course specifically designed for students ages 5 – 10 and teaches children the principles of playing the guitar in a fun and “child-friendly” setting!


Children will be introduced to the guitar through singing, games and playing on the instrument. Each lesson involves note-reading drills, rhythm drills and games and guitar playing skills.


Theory and ear-training are taught through activities that directly relate to the learning process of children this age.


By the end of the first year in GuitarKids®, the child will have a good grasp of the principles of guitar playing and note reading.

Guitar Lessons

VOICE

Voice Lessons are available for students beginning at age 8.

The vocal teachers at Port Perry School of Music’s hold degrees in music, have multiple years of teaching and choir instruction and specialize in teaching all genres of music, including musical theatre, classical, pop and country.

Vocal lessons are taught with recorded and live piano accompaniment and are structured to include a regime of warm-up exercises, taught together with proper breathing and vocal production. Students are introduced to a number of musical styles and will receive instruction in their area of interest.

Specialized vocal instruction is available for students looking to enter the vocal categories in various dance competitions or who are looking for coaching to prepare for an audition.

Recording Session

WOODWINDS

Woodwind instrument lessons are available at Port Perry School of Music. Students should be at least 8 years of age or older in order to have the lung capacity to play these instruments.

Lessons are generally a half hour in duration, once per week and involve playing the instrument as well as instruction in theory. Students will be introduced to a number of musical styles or receive instruction in their area of interest.

DRUMS

Port Perry School of Music offers drum lessons for students ages 8 and up. Beginner students will learn basics such as technique and stick control eventually moving onto learning new beats on the snare, hi-hat, crash cymbal and the full drum kit.

Students require a practice pad or drum kit at home to practice on to prepare for weekly lessons.

Lessons are typically 30-minutes in duration. Students will be introduced to rhythm patterns and different styles of drumming as per their interest!

THEORY

All levels of Rudiments (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced) are taught as part of the piano and violin lesson curriculum and are available privately for all other instruments.

Private theory lessons are available in all courses including Rudiments, Harmony, Counterpoint, Analysis and History. Lessons are generally a half hour in duration, once each week and students will be prepared for the examination with weekly homework assignments.

Harmony, Counterpoint and Analysis are offered privately as requested. The curriculum follows the Royal Conservatory of Music most recent syllabus.

Port Perry School of Music also offers Theory Lessons in preparation for University entrance examinations.
